One of the most amazing realities of the Gospel is that Jesus came to meet us in the midst of our struggles, spending his time with those who were pushed to the margins of society, loving and serving those whom others deemed unlovable. In Wonder, hardships and discrimination are the norm for Auggie due to his facial difference, but he doesn’t allow it to make him bitter or push him into the background, instead choosing kindness and integrity, being true to who he is. We all face our own battles in life and can get discouraged by worldly values, but the Scriptures remind us that “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7a). Today we explore how the precepts of choosing kindness, not being afraid to stand out, showing empathy, and offering encouragement resonate with our call as followers of Christ.
