“Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.” – Mark 9:36
At Hope Church, shaping children by investing in future generations is a central part of God’s vision for our church. We want to introduce children to Jesus, and do everything we can to help them become fully-devoted followers of Christ. If you visit any of our children’s ministries, you will find a safe environment where kids are having a great time and experiencing God’s love.
Upcoming Events with Children’s Ministry
Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat will be held on Saturday, October 14 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Hope parking lot.
There is a sign-up board located between the Welcome Center and the card table. We need decorated cars, donated candy and baked goods for the cake walk.
Mission Opportunity at Trunk or Treat
This year we will have a collection for a kid’s mission group, that Hope member Renee Tahja has started, at Mission Viejo Elementary School. They will be putting together kits for UMCOR and for families who live in hotels along Colfax.
Hygiene items of any size such as: soap, shampoo, deodorant, and underwear for kids and adults, diapers, and laundry soap (powdered and of smaller size for ease of transport are best) are being collected.
Please contact Kate Stapleton with any questions regarding Trunk or Treat or the mission opportunity at [email protected]

When the crowd tried to keep the children away from Jesus, he was quick to respond, “Let the children come to me.” Jesus taught that children were to be included and provided for within the community of faith. Today, the church may be the only place where some children find the unconditional love and care they so desperately need to grow and thrive. As Christians at Hope United Methodist Church, we must take our responsibilities to our children very seriously.
In all of our Children Programming, we at Hope UMC:
1. Require that children are always with two adult volunteers at all times.
2. Require all volunteers and staff working with children to have and pass background checks.
3. Offer Annual Sunday School Training for Teachers.
8:30 a.m. Sunday School Program:
For the 8:30 a.m. service, all children ages 3 through 5th grade will stay with their parents in the service until “The Message For Our Young Disciples.” The Message for Our Young Disciples occurs about 10 minutes into the service. A pastor will invite all children to the front of the service where they will have short lesson and prayer with the pastor. All children are then taken downstairs and meet together again in Friendship Hall. We do a Bible story, craft and activity that is appropriate for all ages. Children will go to church with their parents and come downstairs after Children’s Moments.
